The 460 will bolt to the 400 bellhousing and you can use the starter, clutch and pressure plate, but the flywheel will have to come from a 360/390, or a 429/460. You will need an Oil pan and oil pump pickup tube from a late model 460 4X4 or any year Van.(rear sump - and dipstick is located in pan). One main bearing bolt is special(has a stud coming down out of the head for locating the pickup tube). Special Motor mounts are required - sold by L&L products. If your F250 has A/C and power steering, you will have to relocate the pump(interferes with the steering sector) and the A/C compressor (I forget why). Passenger side exhaust needs to be from a van/truck engine, or you will have to "notch" the frame for clearance. I'm sure I've forgotten something, but if my memory comes back, I'll update you. Are the steering boxes from the '73-'79 trucks compatible? Would I have to use the newer truck's steering column, or is it possible to use my current column and shorten/lengthen it? I have the same question about the power brake booster (I have drums all around). I haven't found any '67-'72 truck in the yards around here, but one yard I pick through has 5 '73-'79s in it, most in fair shape. Just wondering if anyone had tried this and if it works. Any recommendations on model of engine (e.g. Izuzu)? What's required to mount bell housing, transmission, etc.? Funny thing a friend of mine stopped by to show me the Cummins Turbo Diesel swap that they performed into a 78-9 Bronco 'bout a week ago. As the sheet metal is close to the same... This was one of the best engineered swaps that I have seen in years! The diesel at least on the outside was the same as the one that Dodge uses in its Ram trucks. They had to modify the stock motor mounts but they used them (towers). There were no mods. required to the frame except that they had to notch the right front corner to clear the AC compressor, without AC no notch. The Trans was the NV-4500 and it was connected to the stock T/Case. There was no room for the fan behind the Radiator but the engine thus far has not needed one. They plan on installing a pusher type in front of the Rad. They used the big Diesel type remote canister type air cleaner mounted to the drivers side wheel well, under the hood. The exhaust exited fenderwell style on the passenger side. All of the accessories bolted on using the stock or Dodge bracketry. The Dana 44 was converted to 3/4 Ton specs using GM Spec. breaks, spindles, Axils, etc. The rear axil I believe was a Dana 60. 600 Lb/Ft Torque will move anything. Not fast but something is going to move! So based on what I saw I would say go look closely at a Dodge/Cummins. Several list members sent in pictures for the design. Thanks for the time you took to do this. Unfortunately, due to time constraints and a lack of artistic ability, I haven't been able to come up with a design. I'd like to ask list members to come up with a design. It should show the spirit of what FTE is all about and no focus on one specific type of truck. Perhaps 2-3 trucks on the design from different eras. Peggy and I are going to put together a prize pack (to be announced in the next few days) and the winner will get the prize pack, along with their signature in the design. All designs will be posted to the web site, along with an anonymous voting center so everyone can vote on it. We'll keep the final price of the t-shirt reasonable. Send the designs to kpayne its for the t-shirt contest. We prefer JPEG (JPG) formated files but most anything else will work. On another note, several people emailed me concerning the spammer. I'm a little behind in my email and will reply to your comments/questions tomorrow.
