You and I have time to deal with the traffic but some do not so will
give up the pool in the hopes of getting an answer from one of their
own type with less Deacon and Gary and Jerry ( bronco list) cluttering
up the mail box. This is what I see on the racing list, actually
page, not email. There are maybe 10 posters who answer questions and
many questions go unanswered due to lack of traffic and exposure to
the right people.

We have the right people and exposure on this list but some can't
handle the mail traffic. These could come in as a guest to pose
questions and have them answered directly to them I suppose......?
That's what Jack did for a while. Seemed to work for him, right
Jack?

>From what I remember the green and black wire on the underdash
unit goes to a switch that is looking at the position of the dampers
inside the unit. Basically, from what I can gather once the dampers
are lined up properly the switch is triggered and allows the compressor
to do it's thing. I could be wrong. My whole wiring harness is under
my dash and mounted on the unit itself. Kinda self contained. But
that switch is the only thing I can see that would tell it whether it was
supposed to heat or cool.

My fan has an orange and black wire the orange being the power and
black the ground. I know there are one wire blower motors out there,
but I find it odd that a black wire is hot instead of a ground. That my be
true for the '79.

Please, please understand my unit is out of a '71and may be (and
probably is) a totally different animal.

Hi All.
I just installed in my 75 F250 4x4, an AC unit I pulled from a 79 F250 at a
local wrecking yard. Every thing fits great, but I cant get the electrical
working.
I am hoping someone out there can help!!!!!.
First the heater control wiring is different!
Second there are four wires from the unit in the motor compartment, one is=20=
a
ground, one is for the compressor, where do the other two go (black &
green)???

I can only get power to the fan motor from the black wire.

I'm gonna throw my $.02 in here. First I don't agree that there isn't much
on the net for Ranchero guys. Let's not forget this is just a Falcon or LTD
in disguise so they have allot more in common with cars than trucks. I
owned a '63 Fairlane for awhile so I know there's plenty of support both on
& off the net for Falcon owners. Second, I agree with Steve D. about
diluting the knowledge base too much. Third, I really get way more posts
now than I have time to peruse thoroughly and I'm only on 2 lists, one FTE,
one non FTE. So there yuh go!

Going into the 85 bronco? I forgot what you said earlier but the 351
can be made to do anything the 390 can do and do it more cheaply
IMHO. There are simply more after market parts, inexpensively
available for this engine and it will bolt in to your present tranny
making the swap less of a hassle. It's also an easier engine to work
on when you get around to rebuilding it etc..

If you don't need the power of the 460 then the 351W should be just
the ticket :-) Personally I can't see myself ever NOT needing the
power of the 460. It's just to dang much fun :-)

Funny thing is you've been getting along with the I6 for this long
so I should think any improvement in power would be appreciated? The
351W I had in my 75 van had a bunch of torque when it was fresh.
When it died i just had a hankerin for mo powa so I stuck a
cleveland (4v) in there and that was a big mistake, no guts untill
you hit 40 or so, then the 429 (my favorite) and then the 460. Funny
thing is I've never, ever been in a situation where I had too much
power.....:-) (you just don't mash the go pedal as much :-))

Gary (and anybody else reading this post)

I am doing a frame up on my truck, a 67 mercury body on a 71 f250 4x4 frame
with 410 merc (okay, okay). The color scheme is wimbledon white with black
dash pad, salt and pepper seat (out of a stock 69) black trim around dash,
black door arm rests, black column, and black wheel. (BTW the lettering on
the tailgate will be dark grey, black is too harsh).

Anyway, the wheel from my 67 is perfect, but as Ford was prone to do, it
has been painted. It was molded in black plastic, then painted red, then
green (the 67 used to be holly green with green dashpad). So, I want to
make it black again, by removing the paint and polishing up the plastic
(since it was painted, it has never lost its richness to UV rays!). I was
thinking about the best way to remove the paint. I tried glass beading a
spot but the bead just bounced off. I tried a bit of thinners and they
worked, but that would probly do some serious damage to the plastic
underneath. I was thinking stripper may work but with the same problem of
stripping out the oils in the plastic underneath. What about sanding? is
that what you did? What papers did you use? Can you send me some info?

The next question is, how do I buff it back to shininess, if I do sand it?
Can you help with some directions? I know how to do a lot of things
(mechanically and prep-bodywork), but fine finishing is not one of my
strong points yet.

Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. Anything I can do in
return, please don't hesitate to ask.

I'm pretty sure that the pre '65's don't have the proper crossmember to
mount
engine side mounts, using the front bracket and bellhousing mounts
instead. As from my revious post, the 4X's were the only ones to use
this style after '65. I bet you'll have a hard time finding them. I had
a '61 F250 Styleside with a 292 and 4 speed back around '78 (wish I had
that one back)and I couldn't even get the 292 mounts for it back then.
Of course the aftermarket is kicking in more, so I don't know. But
stock, the 4X mounts are probably it.

Read your post about your steering wheel. In either Custom Classic
Trucks or Classic Trucks magazine there was an artivcle on how to repair
steering wheels. I will look it up and see what it has to say.

If you have a 4x4 with the rear sump, of course it's no problem. Jamey's
idea is great, (Just 2 weekends ago I rustproofed my cross member on my
beater truck yet again!) but I would use tin (you could use, for example, a
length of stove pipe cut in half) so it could be reused, and not thrown out.

I know people cover the radiator but except for the diesels I don't
belive it's necessary. If the motor isn't hot the thermostat stays
closed so radiator coolant DOES NOT INFLUENCE THE ENGINE TEMP. It's....
