To the Person who is organizing the CA get together, Mary Miller? Praire
City is just south of Sacramento. There is much open space.
This is just a suggestion.
Also the Sierra Four Wheel Drive Club might have some ideas for such a note
worthy gathering.
I would love to help out but as it is I will be moving to CA in July.

Wrong answer. Redneck was originaly a derogatory statement, but in the past
few years people have realized that it is actually something to be proud of.

I'm proud of my "red neck" I earned it through many years of working outside
helping to build
our country... I for 1 consider the label "Redneck" as a badge of honor, and
wear it proudly...
Remember My kind built the roof over your heads and grow/raise the food you
eat...

Subject: FTE 61-79 - RE 73 steering wheel etc

fjm,
all steering wheels before about 77 will be cracked. They are one piece
construction with resin around steel. When the wheel get hot the steel
expands faster than the resin and CRACK!! I do have an extra one in the
back of my truck. I'll check its condition tonight. Alternatively
someone on the list had an article from a magazine about reparing this
kind of wheel. If your local dealer has a new one you may want to save
up and snag it. When I was looking the wheels were discontinued but the
horn buttons were still available. Wanted close to $200 for them. 77
and later wheels were of a two piece design that prevented cracking.
Unfortunately they have a different hub and don't retrofit.

Hi, I just resubbed after about 6 months of enforced absence. I have a
1973 F-100 240 6. Sometime last year the subject of door panels came up

and a source in Tennessee (I think that's where) was mentioned. Anyone
remeber where that was? Anyhow I need a new steering wheel or at least
a good used one. Any source ideas? Our local dealer stocks them but
$190 is a bit more than I'd budgeted. Junkyard ones are all like mine,
craked from the heat.

I recently parted out a 1979 F-250 4x4 with a 300CID straight cylinder. If I
remember correctly, someone needed the frame mounts?? If anyone needs them I

Thanks to John Strauss and all for the spring discussion, when I put the 390
in my '67 the front end kind of went down a bit but I never caught on. The
handling is pretty good but it kind of wallows on turns and I now realize I
should have grabbed the springs when I took the motor.

Donor truck is long gone now, what is best source of the springs I need?
Junkyard, or are they available new at a reasonable price? Where, and how
do I specify what I need? Are there part numbers, or just get "springs for
a 390 engine"??

I'd go for the Fall City locale, I work in Preston....
For those not familiar with the former logging towns of the
great northwet, you cant get to Fall City easily except
through Preston.
I dont think they would like a couple-o-hundred FTE's
ripping up they're town anyway!!!

The cold will do funny things, I had a windshield crack when I tried to
wash the slush off with the w/s washer. Nice hot defroster goin' full blast
on the inside, nice shot o'cold washer fluid on the outside...CRAAAACK!

Gentlemen:

I have a 1969 F350 PU in the process of "updating ?"
wanting to convert to front discs.

Does anyone know if SPINDLES from a F-250 dually with front discs are the same spindles that would fit a F-350 ?

If they are different, does anyone have 350 spindles or the other usual parts needed?..or the skill of having done this ?

Thanks for all the tips on the hanger bearing problems.A common
consensus seems to be the shafts might be out of line.I will start there
and let you know how it works out.
As far as the redneck debate,seems it has become international cause a
few of my co-horts and I here on Vancouver Island,have been labeled with
it.We get it for the love of old trucks(must be a Ford)and a care free
attitude.Don't see anything bad about that!We don't say y'all.We use
gid-day EH! Rednecks of the world unite!
Marko maybe we should gather some Canadian Ford and Merc nuts and meet
up with our American cousins and hold a FTE party at the Peace Arch.We
could party in two countries at once.Just a thought.

This maybe true but the later model steering columns can be installed in
the 73 to 77 trucks. If you have an automatic you will need to fabricate
backup lights and the neutral safety start switch. The 73 to 77 trucks
have the switch mounted in the steering column and the 78 and 79 truck have
the switch mounted to the automatic transmission. It is possible to modify
the 78 to 79 columns to accept the earlier style steering column mounted
switch. This probably sounds confusing but it is really pretty simple when
you look at it.

Ok Deacon, hand me that bucket of crow over here (damn, you ate all the
white meat again? Thank goodness it ain't possum)

I'm as guilty as the next guy, using the term to describe ignorance,
slovenliness and lack of pride in one's surroundings and workmanship, and
I've used it this way on this list.

Being from the Ozarks and now living in southeastern Missouri, I am teased
about being a "hillbilly". I, like my friends further south, am proud of my
heritage too and get a little "techy" about someone using "fightin' words".

The term "Redneck" has been used historically as a slur to denote
unsophistication. Urban dwellers felt their jobs being threatened by the
influx of "southruns", "sodbusters", "newfunds" what ever they are in your
geographical region, who had fallen on hard times. The largest and most
ostrasized of all these were the "southruns" who bore the animosity of
having been in societal rebellion as well. And they should have felt
threatened since these people in general were proud, hard working agrarian
people who wanted a hand up, not a hand out and could work hard and cheap.
There were only so many jobs to go around. The urban veiw had more of a
cut-throat, build connections kind of attitude, and still does. The
urbanites' sophistication, and the migrants' lack of it gave rise to the
term in it's most derogatory sense, i.e., stupid, poor, and slovenly.
"Okies" were derided in much the same way later on during the "Dust Bowl"
times. Conflicts arose in these close urban quarters and thus we still have
a derogatory connotation of the word, descriptive of the image that many
have and still hold to this day. It's funny but most people don't realize
the roots of the term even vaguely when they use it. I do, and should know
better. That's why I'm sorry. I hope there's no hard feelings, and I won't
do it again.

Hey, Deacon this stuff ain't too bad with a little salt....little greasy,
but you can get used to it....

Hi Guys and Gals,

F100 Overheating;
I had the same problem with my 66 F100. I had a 240 and a worn out
radiator. Things got even worse when I swapped a 302 into my baby. It got
so bad that the radiator would overheat if the truck was standing still. I
had to carry a 5 gal. jug of water with me everywhere I went. I finally had
enough when the truck was overheating in the parade at the Super Nats a
couple of years ago. Someone driving beside me even mentioned it was
overheating. You dont know how humililiated I felt at that moment.

When I made it back home I decided to find a radiator that would keep it
cool no matter what. We finally got ahold of a heavy duty radiator that fit
a 66 F250. It was a radiator that was used for towing and such, tow package
I believe. The only difference was that the piece of sheet metal on the
drivers side of the radiator had to be removed.

I've got a 160 thermostat and the radiator never gets above that.

Seat Swap;
I replaced my bench seat with a set of buckets from a Fiero. I know this
isn't a FoMoCo part but I wanted the little speakers behind my head. On my
66, two of the bolt holes lined up with each of the seats. I then had to
drill the holes for the two bolts on the outsides of the seats. I also had
to use two 3 inch spacers on the outsides of each of the seats to get them
level. They also touch the back glass, but I didn't lose any leg room.

I think it was in '71 on the 429. My beliefs on carburation are simple. Like
clothes, it has to fit my needs. Brand names don't mean a thing. IMHO the
Q-Jet on an FE is the difference between "what a gas-guzzler" and "that's
pretty ggod for a 5000 lb truck". My seat of the pants power evaluation is
that in the job I ask of my truck there is nothing short of injection that
compares. If I were competing in truck pulls I'd run the biggest
double-pumper that wouldn't foul the plugs between rounds. Two entirely
different jobs. The second choice is the AFB or it's clones, for everyday
work, the Holley double-pumper is still king in competition, and probably
always will be.

Well it seems that my brake light is staying on because of the
portioning valve. I disconnected the wire and the light went out. So
obviously the wire is shorted to ground somewhere else. Question: Can a....
