relatively Cheap and all you have to do is unscrew it and screw the other
one back in There is no nut on the back that will fall.

What is the name of the post in the cab frame that the latch in the door
clamps to when the door is closed. The plastic bushing (yes there is a
plastic bushing there. Just look. Go ahead, I DARE you) has broken and
fallen off BOTH of my posts (Passenger and Driver). This means that the
diameter of that post is smaller and the door rattles just like it's not
closed all the way. How is this post secured? If I remove it is there
a nut inside the cab that I can't get to without a hot wrench? Are
these things available from the dealer anymore? Help!!!

Subject: FTE 61-79 - 390 Emissions

I just rebuilt the emission (thermactor) system on my 1975 F250 with a
390 motor. I can't find a source for an air by-pass valve. This valve
is a silver cylinder that has an inlet that takes a hose from the air
pump. Its two outlets run hoses to the exhaust check valves. Its
purpose is to prevent backfiring on deceleration. If anyone out there
knows of a source for a replacement, I would be grateful. Normal parts
channels such as Napa can't locate the part.

Damn fine job, man! You are justly proud. What a long way to come in less

It's not commonly available in hdw stores but can be had at job shop
supply houses. Made of canvas impregnated with epoxy resin of come
kind and there are hundreds of combinations for very specific uses.
I happened to find a small piece in the steel crib in our tool room
so I "borrowed" it with the boss's permission to try it out and it
was perfect. 1/2" ID and 5/8 or 11/16" OD as I recall.

You can use any kind of plastic tubing for this but needs to have
similar size to original tube which can be the tough part. You can
also have a shop make you a sleeve out of nylon or some other hard
plastic material for a small fee I should think or they may just have
the material like we did and will sell you a small piece.

In my case I didn't want the original part because it was too weak
and broke off 5 minutes after I installed it for a measely $16 so I
made something that won't break. Course the jaws of life won't be
able to pry my tail gate open in an emergency either.........:-)

I bought a pair of the STRIKER plates for my 1979 F-350 4x4. The FORD part
number is E9AZ-5422008-A (know it fits 1973-1979 F-series & 1978/1979
Bronco's, but may fit other years) The part number (E9.......) means 1989 in
years. C is 1960's, D is 1970's, E is 1980's, and F is 1990's. That is how
that FORD part system works as a starting point. The "AZ" I have no idea
about.....it maybe a Mustang, but I am not sure. Hope this helps ya out!!!

The "AZ" is easy, it means the part was made in Arizona...

Err, no, that's wrong. Actually the 3rd digit indicates the line of cars
the part was origionally intended for.

I believe the list looks something like this:

A= Full Size Galaxie etc L= Lincoln 58-60 Mark 3,4,5
B= Bronco 70-73, Maverick 75-77 M= Mercury
C= Torino Elite O= Fairlane, Torino, LTD II
D= Falcon 60-69, Maverick 70-74,
Granada 75 & up Q= Fairmont
E= Pinto S= Thunderbird
G= Comet 61-68, Montegro 69-76 T= Truck
I= Monarch, Versailles U= Zephyr
J= Industrial Engines V= Lincoln 61 & up
K= Edsel W= Cougar
Z= Mustang

The 4th digit indicates a Ford part ("Z") or Lincoln-Mercury ("Y")

Yeah, in stock form. Until not too many years ago nobody would even think
of using one behind even a healthy small block. Recently interest was
sparked by the light weight and low rotating mass and therefore it began to
be developed for drag racing at first in super stock class where every hp
counts. They have to be highly modified to take any kind of horsepower. On
the street your way ahead using a C6 because who cares if it weighs a few
pounds more or uses up a couple of more hp. A stock C6 with a shift kit and
converter will be strong or stronger than an all out C4. I doubt if anyone
even makes an after market converter housing for a C4 to FE anyway. And
Ford never put one behind a FE or any other big block. They didn't even use
them in with small blocks in anything but compacts.

I had the same problem a few months ago. The bolt is called a "striker
bolt" and is available from NAPA for about $9. Expensive for a bolt, IMO.
But I bought two and changed them both while I was at it. I used a channel
lock to remove mine. As someone else said, a torx key is the right tool, if
you have one. Usually you can realign the plate using the marks on the
paint as a guide, if you want to be precise, scribe a line before you take
it apart.

lucky, i have destroyed a couple 9" rears so far and am thinking more to
come! the bfg AT are the best pulling tires on almost all tracks! need
another set myself. what kind of power are you all running down there?

here in eastern PA there are many trucks over the 650 hp mark, and some
over the 900hp. this year i think there may be someone coming out to play
with us with over 1500 hp. all single carbed gasoline, no nitrous or
exotic fuels, blowers or turbos. (though some people cheat with the
nitrous)

Yes, it comes with a hurst shifter, still in the box... what about the speedo
cable, will I need to change anything there? Also I'll have to cut a hole in
the floor board... see any problems there? I could have bot the whole car for
$2000.00 then sold it with the 3 speed in it.. car is pretty clean.. but I
perfer trucks...]

Since we're talking striker posts, I thought I'd ask about a problem I'm
having. My post is fine, it's just that the rest of the door jamb is
about 90% rusted away. There's very little left holding the post in
place, it's pretty much to the point that it wiggles, and if I gave it a
good tug, I'm sure it would just come right out. Anyone ever fixed this
before? I thought about cutting out a decent door jamb from a junkyard
truck, but I'm not sure if I'd be able to get it lined up right once it
was welded back in. I've been putting this off for quite a while, but
one of these days soon, it's just going to come right off.
