What exactly is a "Highboy" ??? What years are covered?? Are there any serial numbers or VIN #s that correspond to highboy models? Is this a real option from the factory?? What else is there to know about Highboys? I neeeed info! 2- I'm dying to get my hands on a 1970 - 1972 (1971-72 being the sweet spot for looks IMHO) F250 4x4 that I can restore (must be 3/4 ton, must be 4x4) Since I live in NH most of them are rusted away or selling for big bucks, and they're rare. I plan to take a trip south in the coming year to see what is available down south. Where should I start looking?? Are there still lots of old F250s down south that are in ok shape? How much can I expect to pay for what I'm describing? Adam I don't own one yet!! My Uncle: 1970 F100 2wd 302 1971 F250 4x4 360 199,000 mi & Tired!! Hi everyone, Well, its almost here. I too, plan on being at the Super Nats. This will be my third year in attendance. This has become a family tradition, and most of my kin go also. It just happens that the females only like to shop. Go figure. My nephew even likes the old Fords. He EXPECTS me to hand over the keys to my 66 F100 when he turns 16, so he can smoke the meats at school. We need to remember about the parade of trucks at noon on Saturday. I think we should meet about 9 or 10 Sat morning. If we dont get a booth then we should try to meet ,probably, in front of the Convention Center, under the canopy. Just my $.02 I was also wondering if anyone planned on taking their truck to the show. I wont be taking my baby this year, the heads need some more work. Oh well, thats life. There's good reason that Ford put the C6 behind many of the applications that they choose. Non stock is another matter, but then again, a C6 can be built up to be extremely strong. I have enjoyed it very much. I have posted questions and replied to other postings. I have an idea I'd like to put forth for concideration. I think it would be great fun to get together with other members of this list for a weekend outing. I think we could pick one of the trips from Harry Lewellyn's "glovebox" book on backroad trips in southern California or if anyone knows of another good day trip in the area. I think it would be best to limit it to a one-day event for now. We could all meet at a predetermined location, drive the scenic backroads to a nice spot for a potluck lunch, then home a different route. Let me know what you all think of this idea. After all the Jeep owners have their Jeep Jamboree. Why can't we have a gathering as well. Send (or post) your thoughts to me soon, the summer will be over before you know it. Though I won't be able to make it this year. I would like those of you who are to be my eyes. AFAIK the '64 F100 CrewCab I have is the ONLY F100 crewcab around, anywhere, as production started in '65 on only F250/F350's, not F100's. Keep an eye out for any F100 crewcab and if possible, tackle the owner, talk them into submission and have them get in touch with me by any means possible. Not only do I have a particular interest in all CrewCabs, I'm particularly interested in the early pre-production years to determine the similarities/differences between them. If you see a custom recently built older crewcab, I'd like to contact them as well. I've seen a model car of a 20's crew built in the '70's. If I ever put together a website, it'll be devoted to CrewCabs. If I ever get enough money together, I would love to go to Pigeon Forge to display my truck. In responce to your suggestion about getting together someplace in Piegon Forge: This will be my 5th straight year to attend the Super Nats. I think I would cry for a week and have to start taking them little orange pills if I had to miss a year now! For all first-timers, be preparred to make many more trips back in the future years! (For me it's 8 hours one way!) If you just want to meet without the sit-down and drink, then I would suggest meeting in front of the main doors to the Grand Hotel. This would keep us a short distance from the BIG crowds. If you want to meet for breakfast on the grounds the best choice would be right next door at the APPLE TREE INN (Kens buying!). They offer a buffet breakfast with everything for about $6.50 person. Plus they have the reg menu. The Grand also offers a buffet breakfast but has less seatting. Especially for larger groups. Breakfast crowds peak between 8:00-9:30a.m. May want to meet around 7:30? The Apple Tree Inn is a bright Red building, can't miss it! If you just want to meet for Coffee, soda, etc. and have a sit down, then the APPLE TREE INN would probably still be the best place before or after Lunch hour. Keep in mind people that parking is hard to come by at the Nats. For future use, take down the names and numbers of the many hotels close to the Grand so you can make reservations in future years and will always be within walking distance! This is a big help!! Piegon Forge is PACKED with people and traffic on that Friday night and all day Saturday! Also, be sure to bring your lawn chairs for the parade and just watching the cruising at night. Look forward to meeting you all! Compared to what?? The C-4 has two bands which make it inherently weaker than the C-6 without any other considerations. The C-6 has a very large first gear clutch pack which is virtually unbreakable, the input shaft will break before you hurt that clutch. The Input and output shafts are larger in the C-6 as well. As I stated before the C-4 (when nothing else was available or smaller rotating mass was desired) has been made to withstand up to 600 HP on a race track but why beat yourself up beefing up a C-4 when a stock C-6 will take one heck of a lot of torque and can be had in small block configuration as well as BB including the venerable FE??? Another advantage of the C-4 if I heard right is that it had several gear set ratios available so could be adapted to different vehicle weights and engine combinations which may have been a factor in it's popularity for racing. The C-6 only has two sets available but for most purposes that's enough :-) If you already have the C-4 mated to your engine and need a little more reliability then by all means work with it but if you are building a truck (as opposed to a lighter vehicle) with anything larger than a 302 engine and are looking for a tranny to mate to it then I strongly suggest you use the C-6 :-) 78 F-150, 2wd, 460, C-6, 235's 78 Bronco 351M, Np 435, Np 205, 33's 78 Lincoln Town Car, 460, C-6, 19.5' long! - -- Gary -- = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 61-79-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 61-79-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 May 1998 09:14:27 -0400 From: Sleddog Subject: RE: FTE 61-79 - 429 police interceptor w/c6 where do you pull? what gearing? what tire size? what converter? how high the hitch point? tell me more!! sleddog - ---------- From: JJJJJGRANT[SMTP:JJJJJGRANT Sent: Wednesday, May 06, 1998 12:42 AM To: 61-79-list Subject: FTE 61-79 - 429 police interceptor w/c6 i have the same engine in my 78 f150 4x4 and compete in truck pulls,i normaly place 1st in the 4x4 street modified class, the truck and engine are all stock, but they won't let me pull in the stock class,no fun anyway, alot of late model fords with 302 and chevy's with 305 & 350,the new dodge normaly takes 1st in that class. in my class i pull against small and big blocks with aluminum intakes, cams, headers and so on and mine has none of that, just an old 72 429 pi,with a cast iron cj intake, (i had to take the alum.off for the street class, didn't make any difference)stock exhaust manifolds, and a 650 holley carb, i also have a c6 trans to go with the engine. = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 61-79-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 61-79-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 May 1998 08:27:16 -0600 (CST) From: Stu Varner Subject: Re: FTE 61-79 - Pigeon Forge is right around the corner. >We need to remember about the parade of trucks at noon on Saturday.
