It's still in good shape. I just installed window weatherstrip from JCW last Saturday. It looks to be good quality stuff. I bought the belt weatherstrip and the regualr window channel that goes on the front, top, and rear of the window glass. The belt weatherstrip comes with a lifetime warranty and is made by PUI Interiors. The window channel was about an inch longer then stock. I had to trim the excess off for a perfect fit. No big deal. The belt weatherstrip costs $44 for 4 pieces (two per door), and the window channel was $17 per door. JCW sticks it to you with the shipping. They charged me $13 for shipping. The weatherstrip is good quality, but only time will tell. It may be another story if you live in a high pollution enviroment where you have higher ozone levels. I live in San Antonio, TX and the pollution is very minimal compared to places like LA. High ozone levels will cause the rubber to dry out and start cracking. They have a solid rep of having the best weather stripping. I am sure someone may argue that point, I don't want them to!!! But, Try them first. Most all their stuff is A one quality stuff! I adjusted on the clutch until the > pedal won't even go all the way to the floor and the engine and > transmission are still engaged. Dad says someone at the shop must You may have two problems here and the first one to fix is the clutch. Regardless of transmission condition the engine can't turn if the clutch works and it's depressed, OTOH if you are pushing it without depressing the clutch, no amount of adjustment will fix it if the tranny is actually in gear. Just pull the throwout lever boot and look inside to see what the lever is doing. If it's depressing the clutch arms or diaphram it's probably doing it's job and the tranny then needs to be fixed. The clutch throw out lever also should have a return spring on it so you can adjust some free pedal into it without the linkage falling out. I wanted to point out here also that you need to get the right flywheel for the 429, don't use the 351M or 400 flywheel since the 429 is internally ballanced and the 335 series are not and require a special weighted wheel. The post 78 460's use a weighted flywheel also but it's not the same as the 335's either as far as I know so you still need to match them correctly. 78 F-150, 2wd, 460, C-6, 235's 78 Bronco 351M, Np 435, Np 205, 33's 78 Lincoln Town Car, 460, C-6, 19.5' long! - -- Gary -- = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 61-79-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 61-79-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 May 1998 12:25:33 +0000 From: "Gary, 78 BBB" Subject: FTE 61-79 - Re: 78-F250 conversion > Date: Fri, 01 May 1998 18:42:22 -0700 > From: "Richard Baldwin" > Subject: 78-F250 conversion > I want to convert my 2 wheel drive F-250 to a 4 wheel drive... If > any one has done this I could use some does and dont's to this > matter...Any help will be greatly appreciated... The 2wd has a cross member under the engine, the 4wd has one in front of the engine instead and the mounts are on the side rails instead of stanchions so there is a lot of welding required to strengthen and supply supports for the engine mounts. The 2wd steering box will not work either since it uses a rear tie rod and the 4x4 uses a forward tie rod location. As others have said, get a 4x4 chassis and do it right unless you are just bored with life and want to torture yourself. How do I know all this you may ask.................I converted a van which already has the right box location for steering and it was a 3 month operation and required new drive shafts and special spring mounts and modified cross member among other things. Add the steering considerations and you really have a challenge. If I had it to do again I'd put the van body on an F-250 4x4 chassis and do the little clean up jobs to make it all fit. 78 F-150, 2wd, 460, C-6, 235's 78 Bronco 351M, Np 435, Np 205, 33's 78 Lincoln Town Car, 460, C-6, 19.5' long! - -- Gary -- = Ford Truck Enthusiasts ============================================== Send posts to: 61-79-list Send unsubscribe requests to: majordomo "unsubscribe 61-79-list" in the message body. ======================================================================= ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 4 May 1998 11:36:18 -0500 From: ballingr Subject: FTE 61-79 - Rear Blocks >aftermarket. How about the outer chrome piece, the circlips and spring? The Dana supplier here said that the company who made those hubs was sold to Cushman (as in golfcarts) and no "hard" parts are available..... My 69 F-100 4x4 has them as well.... Also, good question about the hubs. I do know that the heavy duy spindles that go with these hubs were discontinued by Dana in 96.....junkyards are the only way to go now. Although, I did hear of a company that is making them now, at around $350 each....... Mine came between Colorado and California, and I had a nice little intermittent drop of warm oil on my foot every 40 or 50 miles from dripping behind the dashboard..... I switched over to electronic (with a sender) and have had no problems.... Somehow, it seemed to "lock" in gear. I happened to be in the mountains, and I happened to be pointed downhill. If I remember correctly, I held in the clutch, got up just a little speed, and then let it out. Seems like it took a couple runs of this and it "popped" out, and I never had a problem since.... I couldn't explain it....especially to girl who was with me...... Hope this helps a little! I stayed with Penzoil, hope I haven't disappointed anyone in this. I think that synthetic oil would be good in an engine without problems like mine has. With the blow-by I'm experiencing, and the short distance I run, I change it every six weeks, so the cheaper stuff would, in my opinion work best. Penzoil has always given me great service, and in anything but a 302 (renowned sludge-bulder)hasn't caused any build-up trouble. The 302 I had was at about 140,000 and ten years old before I noticed it, when replacing the timing chain, and valve cover gaskets. I've seen them much worse at 80,000 with other oils. The cold pressure is unchanged, warm oil pressure is at 45 instead of 30. The valvetrain is silent. As expected, the cold piston noise is about the same, even on initial start up a little worse(forged pistons as far as I can tell, since it nearly goes away when warm) and seems to get to it's best point quicker in the warm up cycle, gets down to kind of a Wrrrrsssshhh when you rev it up and down, and doesn't seem to knock as bad at idle, but still has the growl. Considering that most of the valvetrain noise that once masked it is gone, I think it's an inprovement. Turns over a little stiffer, and seems to have lost a tad bit of power, but not much. Time will tell, I've never had to run this stuff in anything before, 10w40 has always been suffficient. Thanks to everyone for your imput on this subject. If I can just get a year or two out of this engine, then SWMBO might loosen up on the purse strings a little and I'll put one together that I'll be satisfied with.
